Great news for our women’s health community. In conjunction with Intuitive Surgical, Sarasota Memorial and Doctors hospital, just got approved to be the first gyn surgeon in SW Fla to offer single site minimally invasive robotic surgery. We will be a regional and national training center for other surgeons and surgical teams. Thanks to the development team at Intuitive and the administration at our Sarasota hospitals for their continued support and vision. 15 years ago, the “robot” was an arm that held the camera and we moved by stomping a foot pedal. Then it was voice activated. Then in 2007 we got our first daVinci with 4 arms and a video console and fine little wristed instruments. Using that for some surgeries was very helpful. Now we have three arms that work through a single 2cm incision. Fewer and fewer gyn surgeons have the training and experience to do complicated laparoscopic surgeries and this is where robotics will be especially helpful. It makes the surgery easier for most surgeons. The single site technology will be an excellent option for less complex cases and the best surgeons. Follow us on facebook @ Swor Women’s Care
