Adenomyosis

Adenomyosis is a common gyn disorder related to endometriosis. When cells just like the lining inside the uterus grow in other areas outside the uterus, the condition is known as endometriosis. When the same type of cells grow inside the smooth muscle wall of the uterus, the term is adenomyosis. Adenomyosis is a frequent cause of abnormal bleeding, uterine enlargement and sometimes pain. Birth control pills, progesterone and other hormone and medical treatments can help sometimes, but it often gradually worsens and requires surgery in many cases. Surgery options include endometrial ablation, laparoscopic surgery or simple hysterectomy. If less aggressive management can help a woman with adenomyosis through menopause phase, then the condition typically doesn’t worsen at that point.
